the prices are falling fast also. What used to be $10,000 can now be
found for less than $1500.
Trinkets? I bet you'd find all kinds of things to make if you had the
printer. But as you indicate, size will be a big part of deciding what
can be made. but you may be right. I think the R&D departments and
prototyping groups are making a lot of stuff with them. when I worked
for a corporation doing development of fibers equipment we spent huge
amount of money having local machine shops made "one off" parts to try
to see if we got more speed, etc out of the machines. Those kinds of
tasks will really benefit. And as more and more 3d machines get in the
publics hands more and more creative uses will be found.

The new 3D printers put out by 3D Systems can print very thin layers

can get good results. Putting the stuff in acetone (?) vapors for a
little while also takes the edges off. Multicolor printers now too.
It's a meerkull! I was thinking to build one but I'm not sure what I
would do with it other than make trinkets.

To make map pockets would require a pretty big printer. It'd also
require a fair amount of finishing, I'm under the impression that
printed stuff has a texture where the layers come together. I'd think
it'd be better/easier to cast a new one.
At some point it seems like somebody ought to be making a living
doing this stuff. Maybe if Dad buys the farm next to ours and I
finally get frustrated with high-tech I'll move north and build a
little manufactory to make small run bits like that.

Ah! You need a 3D printer - make a new one. Sell them to others ---
