Hi Max,
Yeah, I'm afraid Global Warming is taking its toll on all of us. Brrrrrrr...... I hadn't thought about using the Block Heater - my engine starts so quickly even when cold. My wife got stuck at the hospital last night when the evening shift couldn't get in so the '91 300D was in the parking lot when we had record lows in single digits last night. We'll see what happens in another 15 minutes or so, but the battery is strong and only 12 months old, the glow plugs are all good, as is the GP Relay and Delivery Valves. I do need to change the air filter soon but that's shouldn't be a problem now. My MB is always garaged when it's home so I hope wear on startup is minimal. i'll try the BH a few times to see if I notice any difference in start times.

As soon as the weather warms a little (it was 73F last Sunday!) I'll bleed the brakes. I still need to have the hard lines replaced in the rear along with the hoses to the calipers, but that'll have to wait until my wife has some time off. Will probably let a shop do that also -- would be too much time on the cold concrete for me. Plus, I think it would be almost impossible to do without a lift - regardless the temp of the concrete.

There's aways fun to be had with old cars.... ;-)

Sincerely,
Larry

Larry,

We're getting unseasonably cold, down to freezing last night, but thankfully
no snow or ice this time.

When the predicted low is 40 or less, I've been plugging in the block heater
on my E300, not because it needs help to start, but because I'm trying to
reduce cold-start engine wear and get heat as soon as possible.

Thanks, Max!
Your method is the one I remember thinking was the was way I wanted
to try. Thanks for the explanation ;-) I'll give it a try...

I hope you're not in this severe cold weather? we're supposed to get
down to 5F overnight - and my wife had to stay at the VA hospital because
the evening shift called in so she couldn't leave. She'll probably won't
get home until tomorrow morning. ;-( I know i won't sleep well tonight....

Best wishes --

Sincerely,
Larry

When I used this method, I'd start with the right rear wheel, attach hose
to bleeder and put other end in bottom of jar, open bleeder and then open
reservoir.
If the idea is to change all the bake fluid, start by suctioning out the
reservoir and filling with fresh.
