Check for a shorted wire in the trunk for the light -- the wire runs
along the hinge and tends to rub through and short.
Be prepared for some wiring repair!
This happened on my brother's SDL a few years ago.

Good catch. I had that happen too on the SDL. I had forgotten about
it until your reminder.
