So I've gone to using cash for everything. One of the by-products of this has been learning how my fuel door filler works on my 08 CLK 350. Historically, you stop at the gas pump, get out of the car, walk to the pump, slide your card, fill er up and then get back in the car. Now I use nothing but cash. So I stopped in a sketchy part of Phoenix the other day to get fuel. I get out of the car, lock the doors, walk inside give the cashier a 50 tell her I'm going to fill it up, and then come back out to the car . I press the unlock on the key fob, open the filler cap and start the fuel. About 30 seconds into the fueling , I hear the door lock and the fuel filler flap locking stab comes out. Wonderful. So i unlock the doors and the staff does not retract. So I start the monkey with a little bit and get it pushed back in enough where I can actually close the filler cap when I get done fueling. Trouble is, when i unlock the door after closing the fuel filler cap it would not unlock. After I get home, I see if I can access it from the trunk. There's absolutely no way to get to it from the trunk I figured out. So I put the top down in some type of a mid position and you can access it that way. So to make the two already long story short, you have to remember to open a door when you unlock the car to put fuel in or it will try to relock itself and the actuator will come disconnected from the little latch. Live and learn.
