A friend of mine owned a sporting goods store in MA of all places, and
had a firearms sales permit, which apparently included automatic
weapons. One night we were socializing and he says he just sold 2
mini-guns to some foreign buyer. These were the things that go like
3000 or 6000 rounds per minute, like mounted on helicopters for hosing
down targets quickly. I think they were made by GE or some subsidiary,
might have been located in MA, I don't remember.
So this was intriguing, turns out his store had the necessary permits
for selling and exporting this thing so he was basically just the
pass-through on it. I don't recall him ever saying who the buyer was,
or if we asked he averred on the identification, which was further
intriguing as to who would be buying these, how they had the necessary
permits to do so, with the foreign connection, etc.
I could see mounting one on the front of the truck. Maybe both.

The resultant effect has been a huge escalation in value for those
guns. The $1,000 dollar full automatic cheaply made AK 47 now sells

Production and sale of full auto continues to the military and select
police units. Not private citizens. The "mini guns" you see on TV may
be "made for hollywood props" ?
I have contact with a manufacturer of the mini gun used by the
military, and I can tell you, it is tightly and securely controlled..
every part is accounted for under DOD contract. Federal inspectors are
on site full time.
Interesting fact: If Chicago, Detroit, and NYC firearm murder
statistics were removed from the calculations, USA would rate second
from the bottom in worldwide number of firearm deaths.. I take note
that those three cities have the most draconian gun laws against
private ownership in the whole United States.. The conclusion can be
made that murderers prefer unarmed victims..

Automatic weapons have been illegal in the US since the 1930s. You probably
mean "semi-automatic" weapons which pretty much includes most modern rifles
and pistols designs of the past century.

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the beauty in a well made firearm. I
think it would be interesting to make an AK47 and have watched the video on
how to do it. I own a couple of .22 rifles and have been considering
something a bit bigger. However, I am happy with the fact that hand guns
and automatic weapons are not common in Canada. Let us face it, there are a
lot of people out there who should not be permitted to have any sort of
firearms. They are stupid, or criminally minded, or careless, or mentally
unstable, bad tempered, etc. Being permitted to possess a weapon should
require rigorous background checks, formal training, and ongoing checks to
make sure things are not changing. Automatic weapons should only be had by
the military for war. They should not be sold to anyone with sufficient cash
and no obvious criminal record.
