Hi Constantine, The funky looking Vise-Grip pliers are not really needed. They are to get the roof fully seated forward before tightening the bolts. The two little plastic install guides are needed, but they're cheap - $1 each. And, they take the place of the 'self-made' L-shaped pin mentioned in one of the procedures.
I got the sunroof completely repaired, it works GREAT now. Not nearly as hard as expected. The worst part is trying to disassemble it when it's frozen shut. Once you're past that, it's just a matter of following directions in the manual.
