Law-abiding v. criminal. If the woman had chosen to be a criminal in exercising her Constitutional rights (figure that one out), the ex could have been the one purged from society instead of the woman.

The criminal likely either stole it, or bought if from someone who stole it or sold it to him illegally. So criminals...
