Paul, If it's flaring on ALL shifts, it's probably vacuum modulator related. There used to be a good article on mbz.org that described adjusting the vacuum switch on the top of the IP and the vacuum modulator down on the transmission.
If you're making the Dallas to Austin trip again, you could stop by and I'll help you put the gauges on it. I've still got my homemeade modulator pressure gauge left over from my 300D 722.315 days.
