Packing nut leak? Overflow screw leaks? Or was the O-ring that is part of the new connection scheme faulty? (I believe the new plastic handscrew relies upon an O-ring seal. Versus the [old, and still there] LH screw thread seal that is metal-on-metal.)
Either way, when suspecting a leak a spray of soapy water is always in order before applying fire!
