My Indy did an oil change when he did the transmission and timing belt. Fuchs I think...
Speaking of the transmission, the proper vw manual transmission oil is thin like ATF, I'm getting a distinct grinding noise when I go into first if the car is moving which my '98 with the same trans doesn't do. That has Redline MTL in it. I'm thinking I'll put MTL in this car too and see if it clears up. I don't know why better oil would make the engine run that much smoother, but I noticed within a dozen miles or so. I use Mobil 1 T&D, it's readily available and most of the "rated" oils are not.
