I think about 25 years ago, when I was a college student living on about $400/ month, my '63 beetle handled very poorly. I consulted with the local parts house guys, and their VW expert determined I needed new rear shocks. I'm pretty sure the brand name started with an M, may have been Meyle. They weren't too expensive, I think about $25, and they fixed my problem. Parts guy assured me they were German and the best value. I was sure happy with them.
