Metadata? If I am watching who goes in to the voting booth and when (all
perfectly legal), and I have access to voting logs, then I can use the
timing to derive most of the votes. This would be handy if I were a
community organizer of some kind, especially if people knew I might have
this data and were members of some fraternal organization I happened to
head. Short of collecting receipts this would be an effective way to cow
your members into voting the party line.

If the vote record doesn't have timing then the statistics are taking away
one vote per person - effectively mandating that all people have to vote
based on whatever demographics are selected, otherwise the statistician is
going to declare the votes were invalid. (If you have a very successful
ground campaign in one area but not another, you end up looking like a
cheat - if this includes the force of law, then you may as well let SAS
choose the president in advance.)

I agree that counting votes is important, but the paper system is easy to
game already - ask Khrushchev, or the NC BoE. Just because something else
is also easy to game doesn't make it inherently worse.

That said, NC is literally the poster child for where individual votes
don't matter due to the statistically gerrymandered districts, so I may
have a skewed perception.

Best,
Tim
