Well, whatever you are checking is wrong. The 1997 owner's manual suggests
that suburbans when equipped with a 4.10 gear ratio were rated to tow 10k.
The 2500 suburbans were not available with a 3.42 from the factory, just 3.73
or 4.10. And yes, that's an owner's manual from a diesel.
