Flush the system with nothing but fresh water. Then replace with Dexcool only. If the Dexcool has not been changed since it was built in '08 you have major damage to the cooling system. Dex. tends to go to the acidic side after 3 years after 5 years it's depleted and goes to the High side of the Ph scale and starts to eat pinholes in the aluminum cores of the radiator and heater. Try to get the Pre-mixed Dexcool. If you can't then mix it with distilled H2O only. Dex doesn't play nice with city or
well water.
I was at a friends shop last week he had a 2010 Vette in that needed a new radiator and heater core. Seems the Cheby stealership charged him to change out the Dex but never did. Ph was 7 on the stuff that frends tech drained out of the system. Owner now if fighting with the stealership and Cheby Regional Office for them to pay for the
repairs.

Just helped my son do an oil change on his 2008 Chev Cobalt 4 cyl. vergasser 5

on the inside of the coolant overflow tank lid. The car runs well and the oil
itself shows no problem. The car has about 100 kmi. and uses no oil between
changes.

Is this a concern? Is a coolant flush and replacement indicated?

Also, is there a decent aftermarket repair manual for this car? He says it's
due for a brake job.

Is someone going to offer $500 for this POS?

TIA,

Greg
