AUTOSCadillac hybrid part of growing wavePublished: Monday, May 22, 2017 Luxury automakers are setting their sights on Elon Musk's Tesla Inc. and launching a wave of hybrid cars meant to challenge the company's success.
Cadillac's new CT6 hybrid sedan has joined an expanding field of plug-ins including the BMW 740e, the Mercedes-Benz S550e and the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. The cars are ultimately more comparable to a Toyota Prius than to a Tesla, with all-electric ranges below 40 miles. But they boast high performance and opulent features. The Cadillac CT6 has a new variable transmission, which blends the electric input from the battery with an old-fashioned combustion engine. The $75,095 car is a Cadillac primarily, with its electric motors an expensive add-on. "As a premium luxury brand, showing that we can do this stuff sends an important message to consumers," said Mike Kutcher, lead development engineer on the car (Kyle Stock, Bloomberg <https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-05-19/cadillac-creeps-up-on-tesla-with-a-plush-plug-in>, May 19). _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
