Makes sense to me. I think this is especially true if one is not trying to stretch the oil change interval too long. When I worked at the Oldsmobile and Honda dealership, a lot of GM customers would ask about synthetic oils or long life oils. That particular dealership charged $9.72 for oil changes with bulk Pennzoil 10W30. If the customer was changing it every 3,000 miles or so, I was of the opinion that even cheap bulk Pennzoil was fine. At 3,000 miles in a older technology GM engine, it wasn't going to make much difference what oil they used.
