Had a call from somebody with a car that they wanted to get rid of.
Went to look at it. Threw a rod thru the side of the block. They fixed
the hole by screwing a piece of sheet metal over the hole sealed with
silicone. The guy who has it is just working on it for the owner. Told

I suppose the true test of the quality of the repair is how long
it actually holds up. It can look like hell but still work well.
(Look at half of us! :-)

the guy how much it was worth ($100 max) (116 300SD), said he would pass
it along to the owner but the owner thinks the car is worth $500 as it
sits(crappy paint, crappy interior, cracked windshield, bad engine but
no rust).

As a restoration candidate, if it is actually rust-free maybe it's
worth something like that?
