So I messed with it for a bit and finally got the hood open. It was not hung up at the release it was actually hung up on the hood stop on the passenger side that points forward at the bottom. There appears to be no underlying damage except for the bottom of the hood/grille shell pushed in. I think I can hook on to it with a ratchet strap and pull it back out.
