Compare a diesel Passat to a gas Lupo, the diesel car produces as much CO2, brilliant! -Curt On Thursday, September 21, 2017, 7:46:40 AM PDT, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: TRANSPORTATIONIt's a 'myth' that diesel cars emit less CO2Published: Thursday, September 21, 2017
Automakers suffered a potential setback yesterday when the German Transport Ministry said new diesel cars emit no less carbon dioxide than gasoline ones. Diesel cars registered in 2016 emitted an average of 128 grams of CO2 per kilometer, while gasoline cars emitted 129 grams, the ministry said after an inquiry from the opposition Green Party. The emissions difference has remained similar for a decade, but the amount of CO2 has fallen, it said. One reason the CO2 levels are identical is that diesel cars have been heavier and more powerful than gasoline cars. "It's a myth that diesel helps protect the climate," said Stephan Kuehn, transport expert for the Greens in Germany's lower house of parliament. "Diesel motors squander the theoretical advantages they could bring for the environment by often being built into heavy, high-powered cars" (Reuters <http://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-emissions/new-diesel-cars-no-better-for-environment-than-petrol-cars-report-idUSKCN1BV18P>, Sept. 20). *— AAA* _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
