The oil runs off things like the cam and followers, which results in rust
which gets ground off, ruining both the cam and the followers. Cylinder
walls are also subject to the same where valves were open while sitting.
Internal rust is a major killer of seldom flown aircraft engines. There is
a product that has actually been shown to drastically reduce the rust in a
sitting engine - Camguard from ASL Labs. It's meant for aircraft, but I
also put it in the Ford since I only drive it 2500 miles a year.
