Discussed this with my Indy. He says he SERIOUSLY doubts it's the head gasket,
but rather a heater hose or heater switch that is leaking. Well, that would be
great, but I don't think so. He will take a look at it next week. Will keep
y'all posted.

That's what I love about my '85 617 - that engine had all the bugs worked
out AGES ago. My early 603...not the case. Oh well, learning...with expense.

I think I need:

72-360 - Removing and installation of gas pressure spring on tail gate

But I'm not sure if that is the correct procedure. My very mechanically
inclined friend (Charlie - 240D and tons-o-MOPAR cars) and I are going to
replace both struts on the rear hatch door.

SO, could someone PLEASE e-mail me the official instructions on how to do
this? Struts ordered. Charlie has all the tools - torx stuff, etc.

  Thank you VERY much!

  Chris

For some reason, I have seen many springs lately that after
installation give the cars way different ride heights. My friends
mini-van is the most recent. The suspension used to bottom out, now
it tops out.
MB has a chart about a mile long that gives all kinds of spring
data. It is mind boggling that there are so many variables. Spring
rubbers also come in many flavors. I have installed a few sets of
springs and rubbers in 123 and 126 MBs over the past year. I had to
get the part# from old rubbers to get the right ones. The springs
themselves were all fine. Once the correct rubbers were installed,
the ride height was where it belongs. After seeing this for the first
time I pulled the springs and rubbers then put in the order.
I know its a PIA but ordering the right rubbers is a crap shoot if
you can't come up with the right part#.

I still need Bendix 116 front calipers and would buy the rear pads
as well. If the used ones are not stuck they would be fine as I would
rebuild them. Let me know how much you want for them shipped to 12814
zip code. If any good radiators will fit 79 300SD I'm interested in
that too.

If you want the brake pads I think $20 including mailing will be fine-as for
the calipers let me check what manufacturer they are and I will get back to you.

Yesterday I picked up a tube of "Jim Cathy's all purpose Mercedes repair
adhesive" also known as ShoeGoo. Good stuff but smelly.
I used it to glue the hooks back onto the door skin for my 190D. I'd
recovered 3 out of 4 hooks. Once installed I found that apparently I didn't do
a good enough job on one of them. Oh well its gotta come back apart when the
replacement check straps come in anyway...

How hard is it to r&r the blower fan on an '85 190D? My Chiltons manual
(garbage) seems to indicate you do it from under the hood. I've got the HVAC
section from the MB manual around here somewhere....
Mine is squeeling, I figure maybe I can get some ATF onto the bearings and
get more life out of it. Yet if its a bear to do I'll just replace it.
