Been thinking 'bout bar mounted to underside lip of trunk for 2 or 3 weeks. Yes, I've noticed how such can be done without affecting original function/operation. I can easily reach those areas. 'Had not considered such on doors 'cause the door handles serve the purpose so nicely.

Meanwhile, 'saw suction cup and decided to give it a try. Cheap (maybe too cheap), simple, easy.

Wilton,

If you had grab bars that attached to the top of the doors and were the
length of the top of the door [front and rear, individual pieces] , then
another grab bar that attached to the side lip of the trunk and ran the
length of the trunk, Could you reach them easily?

I have a design in mind for grab bars that would attach to the upper lip of
the doors and the side lip of the trunk.. and not interfere with the
operation of either one.

They could be coated with rubber grip material to retard heat and give
grip. Install should be simple and easy.

As an alternative, the grab bars on the doors could be vertical and mounted
on the trailing edge of the doors, your option.

I wait for your guidance.

Yes, a fact of life that we must adapt as things change.
I was just concerned that the heat might cause trouble with your suction
cup gripper and let you down, so I was trying to think of options for you.
You were ahead of me and had already tried them. It is unfortunate that
your car is black rather than white.

Yep, can pop trunk on approach (tried it coupla. times), but what about
departure? I don't have a powered trunk lid for closing it after I leave
it.

For coupla weeks, been using golf club "socks" on hands to shield 'em
from burning/blistering. 'Works reasonably well, 'cept hassle of having
'em where/when I need 'em (on left rear seat and/or in trunk) and donning
'em as necessary (same as mittens/gloves).

'Could also install bathroom grab bars all around; could even circulate
coolant through 'em.

'Could probably just not leave home, too. ;>)

Just be careful and don't fall!
Would it help if you popped the trunk so that you could lift the lid
from the side and hang onto the area where the weatherstripping is? That might be cooler than the surface of the trunk lid. Or, keep some leather gloves in the car and pull them on before you start down the side of the
car.

As some of you may know, I'm unable to stand or walk safely without

use a walker (rollator) around the house, back and forth to the car and

touring museum, etc., I use an electric mobility scooter kept in trunk
of
the car. Scooter comes apart and reassembles quickly and easily in
about 45
seconds. I can easily and safely move from driver seat along side of
car by
gripping the door handles. Moving past left rear corner of car to the
trunk, though, can present a special problem. When sun is not too hot, I
can grip forward edge of trunk lid with my finger tips. On really hot,
sunny days, though, the black trunk lid and rear window can get too hot
to

Using a 4-inch dia. suction cup dent puller, I may have made and
installed a
grip pad to help me move around that precarious corner more safely. See
attached photo of pad installed. I cut the puller handles away leaving
only
a "T" section needed for my purpose.

'Seems to work fairly well, but I haven't needed it on a really hot day
