More than likely a small assistant.

When the northern U.S. was under miles of ice, the ground under the ice,
under a pressure of roughly 2289 psi per mile of ice (neglecting any
compression of the ice), was pressed down and the southern half of the
U.S. was forced up.

Now that the ice is gone, the ground in the respective areas are moving
to their original altitudes, the north moving up and the south moving
down.
