I guess taking out six digits in student loans gives you enough of a credit
score to be able to buy things you can't afford, with money you don't have, to
impress people you don't like.

Not in the case of the folks who park these expensive vehicles here. The dentist and the orthodontist are hard working souls near to retirement. I did not know them when they were younger so have no idea what they drove then. I believe they have earned their luxury cars at this point in their lives. The MD as well with the fancy Porsche. He used to drive a Nissan 300Z before the Porsche. In winter he drives a RAV4 but it is not new. The dentist and orthodontist sons have no doubt benefited from their fathers' successes. I doubt that either had any student loans and they are stepping into their fathers' businesses that are well established. I do not know if they are having to buy in but I would suspect that if they do, the terms will be favourable.
