Back when I was running the '84 190D the exhaust at one point had more patches 
than original material...

It melted loose.  JB Weld, as fine a product as it is, is not good for things 
that get
hotter than boiling water.

I use steel for filling exhaust pinholes.  (Wire-feed welder.)
If the area is too rotten to take such a fix, apply a large band-aid
of new metal and weld it over the area.  At some point you just
need to replace something.
