Same problem with Massachusetts. I paid $600 in taxes on a car I paid $1000 for 
once and because I waited a few years to register it, I paid another $600 in 
penalties so I ultimately paid $1200 in taxes for a $1000 car. I’m probably 
never registering a car in MA again after that. Will stick with Maine going 
forward.
