These are all fine and dandy ideas, guys, but since the mount is a rubber
part and there’s no way to gain any sort of purchase to speak of on the
top
side o fit when it’s installed, none of these suggestions are viable. And
yes, I used a punch to try and get things lined up, but as soon as I
would
withdraw it from the opening the mount would move back out of position.

Remember, you’re also working through an opening that’s about 1” in
diameter dealing with a hole that about 3” deep in the crossmember, too.

I ended up lifting the engine slightly, just enough to take some of the
weight off the mount,, then using a large crescent wrench on the bosses
of
the mount, pulling the mount over to line things up while simultaneously
running the bolt in with a long extension and a socket.

Took some major gyrating but it worked, that’s all that matters.

The car idles so nicely I can’t believe it. I think it would easily pass
the champagne glass test if the hood didn’t have such an angle to it.

An appropriate size hammer is often persuasive also.

That is what tapered punches are for.
Iron workers regularly use a large version of that for lining things
up

Sounds like fun. I hate it when things don't line up *quite* right
