Not sure Granny was outside of GB then. COuld be something like Greening
or Northwestern Greening. Were they really big? Coulda been
some seedling or un-named variety.

I remember there being an apple tree on campus on the way to the dorm
where my gf at the time lived, I would stop and pick apples off it. No
one else seemed to bother with them as the tree was loaded. I always
picked some extras to pass around. They were like Granny Smiths or
something, green apples which I had never really had before then.
