Still scrap if the rachet is broken.   Unless someone has a source for the rachet repair kits...

A working crappy cheep chinee rachet is better than a dead crapsman non-racheting paperweight.

online, you might be able to buy rebuild kits for your USA ratchets. If you 
have a vintage craftsman RHFT (round head fine tooth) ratchet, do not swap it
