Yeah, TVs they double the warranty (usually to 2 years) and you can buy
an extended warranty for pretty cheap. My wife got me a 70" for
Christmas some years ago, a coupla months after I decided to get the
extended warranty, took in the receipt and bang it was done. Still
works fine, so not needed, but cheap insurance.
I bought some wipers some time ago for the 211 E320 wagon, it has these
weird round posts unlike my other cars, these wipers wouldn't fit and
didn't have one of those adapters so I took them back after 2-3 months.
For some reason the bar code wouldn't scan and bring up my receipt, so
the guy just gave me cash for whatever they were selling wipers for that
day. Good enough for me. It wasn't much, maybe $15 or less, but still
nice to just get a refund on them.

Think of it as profit sharing. It’s a win-win, no matter how you look at it. As
Curt mentioned, their gasoline is Top Tier and costs less than any other fuel
retailer in the area, typically by $0.10/0.15/gallon, so I’m saving there, too.
Their house brand (Kirkland) is almost always excellent quality stuff and
cheaper than comparable brand name products. The wife like her white zinfandel,
which I buy in the Kirkland brand in boxes (bags, really) for about 70% of what
any other brand costs. They consistently offer Michelin tires for far less that
I can get at my local tire guy. Major electronics are cheaper, like TVs.
Add to this their guarantee of customer satisfaction, which is pretty much “if
you don’t like it, return it for a refund” with a few exceptions.
If you use their branded VISA card and don’t pay off your balance, they’re
gigging you on interest. Here in FL it's 17%. It may be higher or lower
elsewhere. I presume that’s a big profit center for them. If you can be frugal
and exercise restraint, I believe you can come out ahead.

The whole idea of paying someone for the privilege of spending money in
their store just feels wrong. It's hard to get over that even if you come
out ahead in the end. Can't take that first step.

Yup. The first year we joined they pushed the hard sell for the executive
membership. We told them we would never hit the nut for it to pay off, and
they told us this. When the year came to an end and it was renewal time, I
did just that and got the refund.
It’s almost a no-brainer.
I would add that we use the branded VISA for all of our store purchases as
well, so we do pretty well on the kickback. I think our kickback last year
was between $300-$400. we bought tires a couple of times and a new TV, so
there were some big ticket items.
They always have good deals on tires, too.

Their branded VISA card is a really good deal if you don’t carry a
balance. We use it for gas purchases and get 4% back just for gas purchases
up to $7k/year. Last year we got a chunk of change back as a result, this
year not so much since we’re not driving nearly as much. I just got a
statement from them and I think I’ve gotten $120 coming back so far this
year, which more than pays for our membership.
