Exactly.  Most diesel idle fuel consumption is for accessories (AC,
alternator, oil pump, etc.) which you probably still want at a long stop
light or in stop and go gridlock.

Why would stop start function save fuel on a diesel? My understanding is
that a diesel uses almost no fuel at idle.
Does not sound like a good idea for diesel.
