The thing about an OBDII car is that the computers talk to each other and 
share diagnostic information that is actually useful. Using the computer you 
can target your troubleshooting so you don't need to shotgun parts. Think of 
the computer as a particular kind of wrench...

Yes. Yes, I do. There are nannies, most are trouble free. A 1993 300D has 
nannies too. A computer controls boost, a computer controls the ABS, etc.
A good comparison, although offensive to Dimitri, is a Camry. :) The W210 is 
the Camry of early twenty first century Mercedes.
As far as reliability goes, the most trouble free car on this list is probably 
Mrs. Dan's R129. Not particularly a good choice for a family car.
