Yeah good idea, I was just thinking that since it is part of the SBC.
I'll put the STAR on it and see what the pressure is in the system, how
low it is running.
I'm going to the DMV next week, I was just going to get the title
transferred but I think I will get a plate too and drive it a bit, it's
quite entertaining anyway. It might have the sunroof recall issue too,
I need to get them to check that on the wagon too.
I was just watching a vid some russian guy made of swapping the pressure
reservoir, looks like a pressure bleeder is needed to get the system
purged of air and pressurized, bleed at the RR caliper, which would be a
bit of a PITA but not too difficult, would just have to get a tool I guess.
I should get it detailed and try to flip it for like $3500, that seems
to be what they are going for, the ask anyway.

I would take the car to an MB dealer if you can. The SBC is warranted for 25
years, so if you can get them to do the magic on it, why not? Worst thing would
be it’s not something covered under the recall, so you walk out no worse off
than when you went it.

This evening I put the iCarsoft scanner on it again, cleared all the historic
codes, including for the transmission controller. It is only showing 3 codes
now, 2 for the RR air strut which I am thinking might just be a loose
connection on the air shock sensor. Got dark so I couldn't dig into there,
looks like the trunk panel needs to come off to get at it. In any case it
doesn't seem to affect anything as the car rides fine, some unhappy nanny
whining. I'll look into that later.
Also getting a code and warning on the instrument cluster for the BRAKE!!!! Visit
Workshop! which is for a code for the brake fluid pressure reservoir on the SBC unit.
Some quick research says that it might be possible to do some magic using the STAR
computer to clear some internal check valve in the SBC, or just to change the thing ($72)
and then do some voodoo with the STAR to get the SBC happy. In any case does not seem
too involved and is a fairly common problem it seems -- the reservoir is a pressure
bladder thing just like the hydraulic suspension accumulators only it holds brake fluid
pressure. I think the SBC was swapped at some point if I recall the Carfax, but this is
kind of a "wear" part so not a big deal.
I took it out for a drive, everything is working fine even with these codes, no
trans codes, no limp mode. I have no idea what triggered that, maybe it was a
loose connection which I have not checked yet, or some other issue in the car
threw it into limp mode. Nothing particularly apparent in any of the codes
though.
Nothing else wrong with the car other than the carpets are dirty and the seats
could use some scrubbing, it is really nice.
Damn, this was some luck. I kinda feel bad for the guy who got told by the
shop it needed a whole new transmission for some $1000s so he parked it and
walked away from it. Shows ya you can't trust these jacklegs who don't know
these cars. They probably would have just cleared some codes or something and
charged him big money, screwed him good.
