IIRC Providence went through a period where they paid out a huge amount of
money for damaged caused by pot holes. I think it was a way for some of the
elected officials to shame other elected officials into actually fix said pot
holes...

Eldest son hit a hole on a newly paved city street last week where a manhole
had not yet been raised to the road surface. Hit so hard it broke the rear sway
bar on his 2012 Ford Escape. Got the sway bar replaced and an alignment, after
which I directed him to enter a claim for his expenses on the City of Tampa’s
web site. He had already gotten a picture of the hole, which to-date has still
not been repaired.
It will be interesting to see how quickly the city pays out, or if they try to
make his life difficult.
