My '82 300sd has been doing something strange since last week.

It runs around 100 or just under in the daytime, even on the hot days and in
stop and go traffic. It heats up at higher speeds.

HOWEVER, the weird thing is that the lower the ambient temps (and it has
been only around 3-5 deg C for the last few nights here), it runs HOTTER.
Last night it was probably 110 on the gauge, and only after driving for
maybe 10-15 minutes. I figured OK, something has really gone out here.

Today, in warmer ambient temps, it barely hit 100 even after a long drive.

I have never seen this before. By the way, I don't think it's a wiring
problem from the sender (known problem in these cars I have heard), as when
it runs hotter the oil pressure drops a bit.

Ideas?
