The advantage of the Goldenrod filter [or one like it] is the ability to
visually see the water collected in the bowl under the filter, and the
drain cock at the bottom which lets you drain out the collected water.
With a canister type filter you do not have those options and have to
"guess there is water in the canister filter because the engine won't start
[after you've drained the battery trying to crank it, in the freezing cold.
Also, with the drain cock built in, you can drain off the collected water
easily without pulling the whole filter and replacing it. [less costly]
