I'm potentially interested in a 2014 E250 Bluetec sedan at a small
dealership. For SWMBO. Very nice car, has the features that we want and
it's a pretty color, but it's missing its engine cover. I looked at the
carfax report and it was last serviced at a Florida dealership. They claim
not to have it. The selling dealer is not willing to purchase a new cover
for $300.

My question is, under what circumstances should this car be considered for
purchase? In other respects it looks presentable and has decent service
history. But how do you lose an engine cover? And what is the harm done
driving around without one?
