The neutral safety switch on my 82 300SD has deteriorated over the last year
or so. The engine has always cranked with the shifter in neutral, but park
is another matter. At first, It would not crank in park after a cold soak.
Now it only cranks in park after the engine is hot. I experimented with a
surplus switch and it seems that the neutral position is very sensitive
while park makes contact over a wide range of shifter movement. In any
case, I decided to replace the switch with new. By the way, the shift
bushings are OK.

Question. I'm looking for advice on aligning the new switch. It appears
that the switch is in the "neutral" position when the hole in the end of
plastic arm aligns with a hole on the plastic switch cover. Is this
correct? Thanks.
