Was reading the Stu Ritter W124 Bible about flushing the brake fluid - it

How do I know when it was produced ?

Stu has reported what Mercedes required and approved when the cars were manufactured. Through model year 1990 Mercedes approved DOT-3 brake fluid and it needed to be flushed every year (and that was so stipulated in the maintenance booklet). In 1991 they changed the approved product to DOT-4 fluid that required flushing every 2 years. DOT-4 fluid has a higher intrinsic boiling point and is less hygroscopic so it can remain in the system longer before it needs to be flushed. If you use DOT-4 or DOT-4+ fluid, flushing every 2 years is fine NO MATTER when the car was manufactured. If you use DOT-3 fluid, then flush every year.

Manufacture date is located on the door pillar tag (at least on all of my cars). This date may or may not be useful as the date does NOT always correspond to model year or to precisely when manufacturing or parts changes were made. Often it's necessary to use VIN numbers. Even then it's not always possible to be assured about which parts actually fit your car.

While the 124.193 (300TD) was only imported during model year 1987, some of those cars had manufacture dates of July '86 (mine was made in Nov of '86) but Mercedes is not always consistent when giving a date about whether they are referring to model year or manufacture date and sometimes incorrectly interchange the terms.
