There were discussions on the list back in 2001 - 2002 (when it was run by Richard Sexton) about the subject. The best guess why Mercedes didn't do it was that the load and rpm drop during a shift would cause the turbo to slow down, causing a drop in power until it spooled back up. There is also a possibility that the emissions were made worse by the combination. Craig
