I have pretty much no knowledge of the C-class cars, but I will say that I’ve seen a fair number of them in the local market and they seem to be pretty solid, unlike their predecessors from a decade previous. The few I have gotten close to are somewhat spartan, but that doesn’t come as a surprise because - it’s a C-class.
The only valid memory I have regarding C-class cars is my (dealer) parts guy talking about how they were very “assemblied” if that makes sense. Remember Floyd pointing out the goofy thing with the window regulator that required the whole inner door panel to come off and be replaced? That’s what I’m talking about. Another example is the one I’m referencing from my dealer parts guy. A customer comes in with a C-class door card/panel, with all the stuff still on it (door handle, release, etc.), and is asking to buy just the door handle. Nope, you can only buy the WHOLE door card/panel with all the goodies attached. Price? $600. Big “Nope!” on the customer’s part. I don’t think this would be a deterrent to buying one. Other cars of that vintage are likely to be similar, Mercedes doesn’t build cars in a vacuum. As with any used car purchase, you’re doing your due diligence and engaging subject matter experts like your mechanic, so you’ve already increased the odds of doing OK compared to just buying it off the street with a quick test drive. -D > On Sep 20, 2023, at 6:08 PM, Bob Rentfro via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> > wrote: > > I referenced a W204 scheduled maintenance pdf and, as you might expect, the > big hitters that should have been done by now (94K) are the transmission > service, rear diff service, brake fluid, and plugs.
