I have a theory about alternators and batteries - now, me being a person who
only learns enough electrical info to fix what is broken at the moment, my
education of electrical problems has been hands on - most often trial and
error unless I have some helpful cohort who is leading me along or I've
found a book wiht very simple instructions.
I've seen this, "thing", a couple of times - a battery will die and the
alternator will die at the same time. My theory is the alternator is
working extra hard trying to keep the battery charged - which it can;t do
because the battery is shorted, etc - so the alt dies because it's running
wide open almost all the time - and summer comes along and the added electr
needs of ACC and the AC blower - creates even more demand.
Any validity to this or has it just been a co-inkydink on my 99 Camry and 91
MB and a couple other vehicles over the years?
I have owned 22 different Mercedes over the last 43 years. I have
replaced more than 50 batteries. I have replaced one or two alternators
and maybe a half dozen or two regulator/brush assemblies, rarely at or
near the same time.
That doesn't correlate well with your theory!
