Hi there colleagues
Had an instrument specialist service and recalibrate my speedo yesterday. I'm pleased to report that replacing the cable inner put a stop to my speedo needle's demented gymnastics. Now it's rock-steady through the speed range. Bliss. Other than that, the specialist could find nothing wrong with the mechanism, even after dismantling it. I discussed your lubrication suggestions with him. He insisted that lubrication was not necessary, and certainly ill-advised if I was thinking of tipping oil down the cable itself (the inner winds the oil back into the speedo head). My only concern is that the cable inner has been replaced many times at what I recall are surprisingly frequent intervals. The outer has been replaced once also. So why are they wearing out so quickly? Thanks for your help, guys Euan CHCH NZ 1985 300TD 5-spd manual 201K mi
