Since I won't go too much further off topic here. Does anyone have a VSS
for an older model 700R4 from an early '80s Pontiac Firebird. I need the
one with the gear drive in the transmission and the electronic output
for the electronic speedometer.

I swapped an older 700R4 into my 1992 GMC and now I have no speedometer
until I find a proper VSS. The newer model VSS is operated by a reluctor
ring on the transmission tailshaft. Swapping a reluctor onto the older
transmission can be done, but it is a lot of work. From what research I
have done, I understand that the early '80s Pontiac Firebirds had the
electronic speedometer with the gear drive on the tailshaft.
