Is there any difference in aftermarket windshields or is all about the
installer?
Both. Make sure you get a name-brand replacement like PPG or Pilkington
and check with Scholfield to see where they send their windshield jobs.
If you're paying for it yourself, make sure you ask the glass people
for the cash price, which is often much less than the insurance price.
I once had the windshield in my 300D replaced by a local schlock-shop.
(In case anyone is nearby, that would be Glass & Mirror Company in
Edwardsville, IL - Motto: "We Suck.") Not only did it leak like a
sieve, but they left the interior a mess, and they installed
Shat-R-Proof brand glass after promising PPG. It was a little wavy and
chipped and cracked easily. The DOT number referenced to the Guandong
Glass Co or somesuch in Red China.
So the moral of the story is: Do your homework before letting anyone
touch your MB.
