when the james-younger gang went to northfield, MN, to rob the bank, the locals met them with 1873 winchesters. guess who won that fight? sadly, lever action cavalry guns are no longer made under the winchester name. the tradition is hard to kill, though, and many continue to make them, most notably Marlin. lightweight, easy handling and very fast for their time (but not fast for today, so don't take your lever gun to shoot it out against gang bangers with full auto AK-47s), they remain today a very useful "brush" gun and are as good as anything at all inside of 100 yards.
