It is there as a reminder, when it starts leaking you need to replace timing
chain, water pump, etc...

Subject: [MBZ] Stupid Design --- GRRRRRRRR!

I have a coolant leak that I discovered last week when I was replacing
the thermostat on my car 1990 300SEL 133K. There is a very small hose
about 2-1/2 inches in length that goes from the thermostat housing over
to the head. If any of you have worked on these cars you probably know
what I am talking about. I tried to figure out how to replace it and
was totally stumped. I finally gave up and brought it to my Indy. He
say it was a really bad design and you have to take the water pump,
power steering pump and other stuff off to get that stupid house out and
the new one on. 2-1/2 - 3 hours labor. What a crappy design. I left
it there for him to do. I am sure I could do it, but I just don't have
time this week or weekend and we are getting ready to have bad weather.
Damn! I am almost always impressed with the way Mercedes thought out
these things, but this is just dumb.
