The other morning I ordered a book from Amazon.com. They have a new trick where if you are not careful (I guess I wasn't) you also are enrolled in a free shipping club for the princely sum of $79. Yikes! But just try to find a customer service email or phone number for them; you can't. But Timothy Noah did, and posted it on Slate. The elusive phone # is 1-800-201-7575. The nice man there both refunded my $79 and didn't charge shipping so I wouldn't cancel the order. While this little trick will be a short term windfall for Amazon, I think it will hurt them in the long run. Check your credit card if you have ordered from Amazon recently...they might have gotten you too.
