Agreed, but the Mac my wife uses was originally shipped with 9.2.2 (In fact I have to keep a copy on it for firmware upgrades and such as they are not available in OSX form for it!) The box is actually faster with OSX (10.4.8) than 9.2.2. I would like to bump it up to 1.5GB ram... I bumped it up to a 120GB disk because it was cheap and I could (You can have iLife, office and two OS's installed on a 20GB and have more than half free!), and Other World Computing has the proper Pioneer DVD/DL-/+R/RW (with apple roms so it is a REAL superdrive) for $30. You can't go wrong there.
Its a really decent machine, and forget about drivers; open the box, plug the hardware in and ... it just works. whether its a 6 year old Nikon D1x (firewire connection) or a 4 month old Olympus Stylus 810 (USB) digital camera, or a Panasonic Mini-DV palmcorder... Heck just for grins I plugged in an audigy 2 USB .... it actually worked fine, though Creative has NO Mac drivers for it. I'm picking up another one and moving all the digital photo stuff off of the PC, the ONLY thing that will be on the PC will be games (BF2, Day of Defeat: Source)... -j. -- -- John Reames 1985 300d (223K "Gerta") 1991 Cherokee (149K "the fishbowl") 1999 E300Dt (141K "Hans") 1999 E300Dt (106K "Frantz") -------------- Original message -------------- From: Allan Streib <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > The same would likely be true of a PC running Linux or BSD. > > It's not really the Mac hardware (though Macs DO tend to be well put > together), it's the OS.
