Call Rusty and give him your VIN and he can get you a new proper
ignition lock and keys. Don't go to the dealer, they will rip you off.
Do it soon before it won't work at all, and will take forever to fix.

Hopefully I can convey what I need to in a coherent manner such that I can
get some advice on a set of interdepedent, related issues with our 240D.
We bought the car used and got 1 regular key and 1 valet key. We have
since managed to misplace the regular key leaving us with only the valet
key. The keyswitch is a bit dicey and requires a touch to operate at times
- I know from past reading that this needs to addressed sooner rather than
later.
At times the ignition switch stays in the 'energize starter' position. The
solenoid seems to let go but you can hear the starter still spinning. (I
saw my son completely remove the key this morning and the starter was
still spinning.) At other times eventhough the key is in the 'energize
starter' position the starter will kick out like you released the key.
Obviously, in cold start situations in low temps this is not a good thing.
So it would seem I need a new ignition keyswitch. But I also have the need
for some new keys and I'd like to keep a single key for everything
(ignition, doors, trunk, glove box). What are my options?
